El Mañana - The Morning

I wasn't paying attention... I rarely do when my ears are pre-occupied with my iPod Shuffle and I'm trying to put the previous nights events behind me. I continue singing and dancing animatedly in my head... and in my chair...

Mami, me gusta cuando me provocas
Tu pelo, tu piel y tu boca
Te mueves de pies a cabeza,
como loca

"Dammit this thing won't go any louder - they don't make them like they used to", I mutter.

"What are you thinking of?", he asks me. "Excuse me?" I say, removing one of the pods from my ears... he pushes his chair closer to mine..."what are you thinking of?" he asks again.

For a moment, I'm irritated. It's 06:47am in the morning and he's killing the song and my Mojo. Can't he leave all the deep meaningful philosophical questions for after 08:00am, when we're all pretending to work?

"So?...", he clearly expects an answer. Exasperated, I say "nothing really, I'm trying NOT to think"... before re-plugging my naked ear, cranking it up to the good part, and continuing with my little solo...

Dicen que la música sigue y no para
Yo la miré directo a la cara
Y le dije que me siento hot, hot, hot

From the corner of my eye, I see his lips move... "Gosh, is he talking to me again?" I wonder, but try to ignore him. He sees this as an invitation to move closer and talk louder. But, I'm in my element...

Soltura nenita dale hasta el suelo
Mucho cal-

"Dammit, what do you want... you're ruining the BEST PART and killing my buzz", I say ripping out both earphones, looking at him impatiently.

"I just wanted to say that you're dancing in your chair", he smirks.

"And you think I don't know that, Einstein?", I retort.

"Well, I thought you didn't know... and... and... its a little funny", another smirk.

"Good! Write a poem about it. See, now I have to start ALL OVER AGAIN, shit".

"Sorry", he says.

"Whatever, go away, talk to me later loser", I wave him off before pressing the play button...

Soltura nenita dale hasta el suelo
Mucho calor sudándote el cuello

I am usually, what I consider, a morning person... my day rarely starts after 5:00am and I'm at work by 06:30am on most days. But there are some mornings, when I just want to be left alone, to drown either in a novel, or in the lyrical world of my iPod. That kind of escape is the only thing that can mentally prepare me for the hectic day ahead. Some people just don't get this.

    1. Not every morning Colin, only now and then when I'm facing a hectic day.

  2. You have to get in the zone so the rest of the day isn't a total mess. People need to grasp that if your mojo isn't working that you could end up stuffing a dead fish in the heating duct or something equally obnoxious.

By the way, did you have your Nutella this morning?

    1. Exactly LL. I need to psyche myself up to face the days quota of psychos.

Sadly, no Nutella for a while. I'm making a plan to change that.

    2. A day without Nutella is like a day without sunshine... And it could push you off the edge, and force you to play practical jokes like going into the company refrigerator and taking one bite from every sandwich packed for lunch (hoping that they weren't laying a trap for you by salting the refrigerator with "sandwiches laced with laxatives".

    1. Some mornings I'm quite chatty Jaya. But I find that people in the office always want to chat when I don't want to.

  5. You're at work by 6:30 a.m.?! I'm not even up at that hour. And I won't reveal what time I've recently started rolling into the office in the mornings - let's just say you're the saint to my sinner.

    1. Between 06:30am and 06:45am, Roving Retorter. I hate sitting in traffic and I like to mentally prepare myself by doing all sorts of things before actually working :)

  7. I sometimes look a little silly when I listen to music, this is why I do it in private where no one can see me. :p

  8. I'm not sure anymore if I'm a morning person or not. but please, do not disturb me when I'm listening to music. isn't that by now an unspoken rule, not to disturb people when they have their headphones in... :)

  9. Mami, me gusta cuando me provocas...? Holy carp what's going on, Mami? Hahaha. My ex is Spanish and she always forced me to say those words. You know what I mean? Y te sientas hot tambiem? Dios mio, Az. I'd be tempted to think it's spring in your neck of the woods. ;)

    Love this post.

  10. I feel you! There has been no morning when I am not locking my room because I am dancing around and pretending to sing. I hate being disturbed at that weird morning routine but I like it. It somehow improves my self-esteem. Hahaha :P
