It was a long hot summer. not.

Never underestimate the power of a Potato, dear reader. Seriously. Ever felt a little down and reached for the potato chips or fries and instantly felt better? That's what I'm talking about. And don't forget the cheese... rich, creamy cheese... followed by equally creamy ice cream and decadent chocolate. Nothing like a feast to numb the void, clog the arteries and intoxicate the senses.

So, after some deliberation, it has been decided that I am indeed, overdue for a vacation. Thanks to LL for those 4 epic words. It's like the puzzle came together and suddenly made sense. See, we're not meant to be slaving away, day in and day out, in places that lull you into a false sense of security while they rob you of your soul, taxing you for the pleasure too. It all eventually catches up with you, and the only way to escape is either through substance abuse or a good old fashioned holiday.

Problem is, I've hardly had the opportunity to take some time off with my hectic schedule over the past year, but I'm beginning to think that I have to MAKE the time. In any case, it seems like my prayers were answered. I'm reluctantly glad to announce that the winds of change have arrived, along with this odd bout of winter in the middle of summer in Johannesburg. Reluctant because I'm hoping that its change for the better and not worse. Damn, I should have wished for a million bucks.

Never underestimate the power of a great workout, dear reader. My beliefs were reaffirmed after it was discovered that copious amounts of cheese and ice cream, as well as one-too-many-spuds, will eventually make you look like one.

  2. Az,

You know what you really need? Leave SA. Move to Sarasota, Florida. See here: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j_skNspr6w4/TupVmIfkkVI/AAAAAAAAFVs/sua5HZ-K8aM/s1600/crescent-beach-7a.jpg

    What do you say?

    1. Rooth - I was supposed to go to Grand Canaria (Canary Islands) but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen (too many complications). Will still see...

  7. When I wrote those words, Azra, I was (and still am) literally sitting across from the beach in Hawaii - doing very little besides being a total bum. There is a curative value to this. The biggest problem is that eventually the party is over and you have to go back to the grind...or not. I may just stay on an island in the sun and blue seas and turn into a professional beachcomber.

I walk along the beach and check out bikinis. However, I also eat (french fries among the fare), so I'm not merely an old guy enjoying young women basking in the sand.

    1. Gosh LL, hope you're having/had an amazing time in Hawaii. My solution to the grind it to buy one of the South Pacific Islands, make it cosy, and give all my blogger friends residency :)

    2. That's a generous nature you have. You'd end up with an entire blogger colony. If you offer bandwidth, they will come.

I guess that I could learn to farm pineapples in addition to my beach combing skills.

    3. We could get some sort of UN money for "research" and set up a research station on a pacific island because that's the only place where the research will work. What about that? I'll let you decide what to research. Maybe the migration of anchovies (from the ocean to a caesar salad or pizza).

    4. And bananas LL, don't forget the bananas. We can do research on the stars at night... that shouldn't be too bad.

    5. Pineapples and bananas, and research on the tides and the nature of grains of sand and how they are like stars in the sky.

  10. Hi Azra.
    It's been a while.
I just realized that reading this post made me feel like I'm already on vacation, for all of 10 minutes (partly because I'm a slow reader but mostly because I had to stop halfway though and get me a bag of potato chips) :)
